Eligibility Criteria

All applicants must:

  • be a Canadian citizen
  • have Indigenous (First Nations, Métis, Inuit, or Native American) ancestry
  • be enrolled in at least two full-time semester in the School of Business or School of Technology 12 months prior to the award application deadline.
  • demonstrate strong academic performance, with a minimum GPA of 5.0 (B)
  • be able to demonstrate leadership, community involvement or Indigenous advocacy with aspiration for a career with Babcock.
  • Provide a letter of support from the students First Nation, Native Friendship Centre, Community Leader or Sponsor demonstrating their involvement in the community or Indigenous Advocacy.

Application Process

  • Complete the Babcock Canada Inidgenous Student Award of Excellence online application. Paper/printed applications will not be accepted.
  • Applications will be accepted from March 1 to April 30. Late, incomplete or printed applications will not be accepted.
  • Adjudication of this award will be managed by the Financial Aid and Awards office. All decisions are final.
  • The successful recipient will be notified by email no later than 6 weeks after the award application closing date.
  • Award will be applied directly to the student account. If tuition and fees have already been paid, the surplus amount will be refunded.

Additional Information

  • Online application will be available from March 1 to April 30.
  • Complete applications must be submitted by April 30. All supporting documentation must be received by this date. Late, incomplete, or printed applications will not be accepted.
  • Adjudication of this bursary will be managed by Financial Aid & Awards. All decisions are final.
  • Successful recipients will be notified 6 weeks after deadline.
  • Funds will be applied directly to the student account. If tuition and fees have already been paid, any residual bursary amounts will be refunded to the student.
  • Students receiving Persons with Disabilities or Income Assistance should speak with Financial Aid & Awards and their Ministry case worker to discuss how bursary funds may impact their government assistance.
  • Bursary funds are considered income. A statement for income tax purposes will be sent to recipients by Camosun.
  • Bursary recipients are encouraged to write a thank you letter to the donor; thank you letters can be submitted to Financial Aid & Awards at either campus.

  • If I give answers that are not true or if changed circumstances make me ineligible, I will be required to pay back all or part of the entrance award I received.
  • If I am receiving income assistance, student loan/grant or other government funding, I am required to notify the appropriate government office of the amount of entrance award funding I have been granted.
  • I consent that the Financial Aid & Awards office may release application information to the Camosun College Foundation Office and to the entrance award donor.
  • If I receive $500 or more in entrance awards funds in one year, a statement for income tax purposes will be sent to me by Camosun College.
  • I understand that entrance awards funds will be applied to any outstanding tuition fees.
